This Hamilton Khaki model is based on military field watches manufactured by Hamilton for the US government during World War 2. As a field watch, function over form is what this watch is all about. It’s reliable, very legible and easy to use. There are no unnecessary embellishments and its simple but considered design language is timeless. I have only owned the watch for one and a half days and can’t say how accurate it is. Online reviews say that the H50 movement used in this watch is within COSC standards of -4 to +6 seconds per day. The watch has gained 2-3 seconds since I have worn it. It’s a very slim watch at only 10mm in height and it’s light! The case diameter is 38mm and it will sit nicely on most wrists. One drawback is that the lug to lug distance is lengthy which makes the watch wear larger than the case size states. If you have a wrist size smaller than 6 and a 1/4 inches the lugs may overhang your wrist. It’s stated as a gents watch but this watch is definitely unisex. The strap is of decent quality, its a bit stiff but I’m hoping it will conform to my wrist over time, some reviewers have said this can be expected. Some watch brands treat the strap as an afterthought at this price point but not in this case. With a 20mm lug width, this watch begs for strap changes. The water resistance is only 50m so I would not risk getting this wet or go swimming with it.
I’ve been wanting a Hamilton for a while now, specifically from their Khaki range. While this is not an automatic like the Khaki Field Auto or the Murph from the film Interstellar (Drool – both watch and film), the design, functionality and history behind this Khaki Field Officer is what spoke to me.
Delivery time was about 4 and a half working days. It arrived in its original packaging with a stamped and filled in 2 year warranty card. Thank you Hamilton for this superb slice of analogue history.
